MTIA has acquired the Basic Automotive & Commercial Tire
Service training series from the Tire Industry
Association (TIA) for use by MTIA members.
Contact Ron Reiling at 636-949-5929 for details.
Every employee in the shop requires basic training, and
we can help by offering a variety of programs that are
easily accessible and designed to meet minimum federal
training standards. This series is directed toward new
hires and experienced employees that need documented
proof of training or a refresher course. These programs have provisions
for students to receive a Certificate of Completion
once they successfully complete the final test.
Basic Automotive Tire Service
Training & Certificate Program
New hires and experienced
technicians require some form of documented training,
and TIA’s Basic Automotive Tire Service (ATS) Program is
designed to meet that need. The self-study format is
available in both VHS and DVD with a technician
workbook.
Basic ATS is comprised of eight modules:
- Module 1 covers the
basic principles of tires and wheels, including
sizing and sidewall information.
- Module 2 outlines
the procedures for raising a vehicle using
in-ground, above ground and portable lift equipment.
- Module 3 covers tire
and wheel assembly removal and installation,
including rotation patterns and proper lug nut
torque procedures.
- Module 4 includes
the step-by-step demount, mount and inflation
procedures using a center post and rim clamp tire
machine.
- Module 5 covers tire
and wheel assembly balancing procedures and
guidelines.
- Module 6 is
dedicated to diagnosing tire and wheel problems with
a focus on run-out measurement of the tire, wheel
and hub.
- Module 7 covers the
step-by-step procedures for installing one-piece and
two-piece nail hole repairs in passenger and light
truck tires.
- Module 8 includes
frequently asked questions related to tires and
wheels.
Every technician that
successfully completes the training program and returns
the proper documentation with an additional minimal fee receives a TIA
Certificate of Completion.
Basic
Commercial Tire Service
Training & Certificate Program
Formerly known as ITRA’s
29 CFR 1910.177 OSHA Compliance Video Training Program
Administration (OSHA) Regulation 29
CFR 1910.177, any employee that handles truck tires and
wheels must receive safety training and demonstrate
their ability to perform the necessary tasks. TIA’s
Basic Commercial Tire Service (CTS) Training and
Certificate Program is designed to meet the minimum
federal training requirements for both new hires and
experienced employees in need of documented training.
The Basic CTS Program is centered on five TIA and
industry videos contained on one VHS tape. The first two
videos describe the step-by-step procedures and safety
guidelines for demounting, mounting and inflating both
single- and multi-piece tire and rim assemblies. TIA
produced the videos in cooperation with the tool
manufacturers, so students receive the most technically
accurate and up-to-date practices using tools and
equipment commonly found in the field. The third video
focuses specifically on inspection procedures for
identifying potential zipper ruptures in steel cord
radial medium and light truck tires. The final two
videos address disc wheel and demountable rim service,
maintenance and inspection procedures, respectively.
In addition to the VHS tape, TIA’s Basic CTS Program
includes an Instructor’s Guide with complete lesson
plans and answers to the pretests. The Instructor’s
Guide corresponds directly with the Student Workbook
(CTSSB-200, sold separately) and the VHS tape, so it
remains an important reference following the training.
Every
technician that successfully completes the training
program and returns the proper documentation receives a TIA
Certificate of Completion.
