In October 1961, Don Isbell went to work for Friend Tire Company. It was locally owned at the time by Hubert Friend, Harold Friend and Howard Randall. Don worked up the ranks beginning in the warehouse. Soon he went on the road as a route driver and moved on to becoming a route supervisor. From this position Don became vice president and took over the realm as president when Howard Randall retired in 1977. In his 53 years at Friend Tire Company Don has seen many changes in the industry. Friend Tire Company was sold to Mohawk Rubber, Akron Ohio in 1962 and following several leverage buyouts it was purchased in 1988 by Yokohama Tire Corp. who is the parent company today. “I met many interesting people across the United States and many of them helped me get where I am today"
Keith Shumaker was born in Golden, Missouri, on the same property where Shumaker Tire Co. is still in business today! Keith graduated in 1953 and moved west to help build America before moving back to his native soil. Keith and Judy married in 1958 and met the rewarding challenge of raising three sons together. In 1961, Keith and Judy started their own auto service business with a family loan. Generations of Shumaker's grew up working in their ever expanding family business. Shumaker Tire Co. began tire wholesaling in 1984, gainfully employing even more residents of SW Missouri.Farming has also been a rewarding part of Keith's life. Retiring in 2012, Keith keeps in touch with his many loyal customers, employees and friends.
